Bournemouth Male Voice Choir Needs You

Mark Burstow, Musical Director for the Bournemouth Male Voice Choir has requested the use of our fabulous Twitter site to make the following appeal :-

Hi,

I have asked for your help before and I hope you don't mind me asking on more time for your kind indulgence and assistance. I am having an open evening for Bournemouth Male Voice Choir and wonder would you help me get the word out - that might mean forwarding this email on to your friends who might be interested, popping up the poster on a wall where men might see it or anything you can manage!

I am trying to recruit a few more men to Bournemouth Male Voice Choir, we have been very successful thus far but I would like to pick up about 6 or seven more! For many people, ‘Male Voice Choir’ evokes images of men in blazers standing on a windy hillside singing Men of Harlech. But not all men’s choirs are like that and Bournemouth Male Voice Choir certainly isn’t. Not only is our music diverse – spanning everything from Palestrina and Poulenc to Take That and Queen – but the range of venues we sing in and the diversity of our members’ interests means that BMVC has something for everyone. In 2010, the choir has sung with a ladies choir from Wales, welcomed soloists from local opera companies, schools and colleges and, yet, we’ve also sung in a convent, a parliament building, a distillery and with a traditional folk group in a country pub – all in the same weekend! Many people join having had no experience of singing in public. You don’t need to be able to sight-read music, either. As long as you can sing in tune and are willing to learn, then you’re already half way there. Add in a disciplined approach and an enthusiasm for a wide range of music (old and new), and you’ve pretty much got what it takes to be a good chorister.

The really good thing is that we have started to get younger guys into the choir, two new first tenors (15 and 17) a 21 year old second tenor and a smattering of basses and baritones around my age -Hurrah!
